History
I've been designing sites, most of them related to Tolkien's works, since January of 2003. I was often aggravated by the lack of LOTR directories. There have been many that opened, but they often closed after a few months. I first got the idea for Arda Marred Listings in summer or fall of 2005. The LOTR fandom was slowing down considerably at that point, but I felt that there was an even stronger need for a directory to unite all the best LOTR sites still alive. I started work on it, but ended up abandoning it, mostly due to real life. With the possibility of The Hobbit being made into a movie, I realized that there was still a need for a LOTR directory. So, here it is!
When I decided I wanted to open a LOTR directory, I knew I wanted to have a general sounding name. I Arda Marred fits that requirement nicely. Arda is the name of Tolkien's world, the world that Middle-earth is in. Arda Marred refers to the fact that the world was damaged by Morgoth, Sauron's master.
